Beijing Design Week has been a regular feast for arts and life goers after it continues to provide abundant opportunities for creative people in china and abroad to showcase their interesting and innovative ideas in the last several years.

Markus M. Schneider is the founder of Metrowaves, a platform for promoting electronic music in china. As a frequenter of Beijing design week, the self-claimed new local is ready to present his ideas to the public again, this time focusing on the culture of Hutong or alleyways and the changing community. Through the projects he is organizing in different tourist spots in Bei Luogu Xiang and Dashilaner areas, Schneider is giving deeper social meanings to the ever changing Beijing communities which are accommodating the Chinese and foreign, the old and the new.

Voices From Other Lands visited one of the venues the day before the official opening, and started the talk in front of the building with the ambient sounds of local people living in the Dashilaner area.

Markus M Schneider came to Beijing five years ago, and fell in love with the city and its people immediately. Cannot help bringing his hobby in electronic music into all his projects, the German said he was stuck here, wondering between the hutongs, checking out the tiny yet sometimes rapid changes within the city. His designer’s blood occupies his heart, which beats faster whenever he is finding something new. The man with beard continues to talk to Voices introducing the electronic music scene here in China.
